Refunds & Cancellation
Last updated: 12 June 2026
There are two different kinds of payment on plebos, and they work differently. This page explains both.
1. Reader subscriptions to a writer
When you (a reader) pay for a writer's paid subscription, that payment is processed through the writer's own Stripe account — the writer is the seller and merchant of record, not plebos. As a result:
- Cancelling a subscription stops future billing; you keep access for the period you have already paid for. You can cancel at any time from your account.
- Refunds for a writer's subscription are at that writer's discretion and are issued by the writer through their Stripe account. If you would like a refund, contact the writer (their publication includes contact details). plebos can help route the request, but the writer decides and issues it.
2. plebos platform fees
Writers on the hosted service pay plebos either a small declining percentage of patronage or a flat plebos Sustaining subscription, as described on the pricing page.
- The percentage (rake) is only charged on patronage you actually earn — if you earn nothing, you pay nothing.
- plebos Sustaining is a recurring subscription you can cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your Sustaining features remain active until the end of the current billing period. We do not generally refund the current period, except where required by law or at our discretion for billing errors.
- Billing errors — if you were charged in error, contact us within 60 days and we will investigate and correct it.
3. Leaving is always free
Whatever you pay, leaving plebos never costs anything. You can export your content, your subscriber list, and your custom domain, and keep them — there is no fee, no penalty, and no paywall on the exit.
4. How to cancel
Manage or cancel a subscription from your plebos account settings. If you need help, email [email protected] and we will assist.
